Kohala Deluxe Solid Top Tenor Ukulele

Size Me Up
Sizing Information

Soprano -Soprano is the smallest of the four ukulele body sizes and is the traditional ukulele size.  The Honu Soprano is perfect for kids learning ukulele or for adults who prefer the brighter tone of a traditional ukulele.

Concert -Concert ukuleles are currently the most popular ukulele body size worldwide.  Bigger than a soprano but smaller than a tenor, a concert uke is the perfect middle ground for most players.  This size is suitable for all ages, though small children may be better suited to a soprano.

Tenor -Tenor ukuleles are exploding in popularity thanks to the full, deep sound produced by their larger body size.  Bigger than the concert, the tenor is great for teenagers and adults that are looking for the most volume from their ukulele and extra space for their fingers on the fretboard.

Baritone -As the name suggests, a baritone ukulele is the largest and deepest sounding of all of the ukulele sizes.  Usually tuned like the highest four strings of a guitar (DGBE), rather than the GCEA tuning found on most ukes, a baritone is great if you have a background in guitar because you won't have to learn any new chord shapes.  They are also very fun if you are a ukulele player looking to experiment with a different tone.

Model - Kohala

Kohala Series

The Kohala has all of the aesthetic upgrades of the Mano, including solid top, maple binding, gold tuners, and dual strap pins, but it’s built with acacia wood instead of mahogany. Acacia is revered for its beautiful, full tone and we’ve added abalone-style trim around the body.

Size - Tenor

After a surge in popularity in the last couple of years, the tenor is poised to become the biggest selling uke body size soon.  At 26", it is another increase in size from the concert (at 24").  The benefits of that larger size: you get even more room on the fingerboard to shape the chords and the larger body provides even more resonance, volume and depth.  The tenor ukulele will sound quite a bit deeper than the other options, so it strays a bit from traditional ukulele tone.

A very nice Ukulele at a very affordable price

I love this ukulele - its bright and lovely sound, the grainy look of the acacia wood and the decorative rosette around the soundhole and binding. It's a beautiful instrument of quality at a super-reasonable price. I've only been playing for a few weeks, but I'm a seasoned guitar player and there are lots of transferable skills. A small crit: I would have fret dots along the side of the neck where a player can easily see 'em. Although with lots of practice you can do eventually everything with your eyes closed, I do like to have those visual guides to confidently go up beyond the 5th fret. I remedied that by ordering stick-on fret dots ($6 or so) at Strings by Mail. Eventually I may go to my local guitar repair shop and have real ones put in. If you look closely at the video, I've also adapted an Abel guitar arm rest (which i had already) because the sharpness of the binding bugged my right arm when I played for long periods of time especially in hot, bare-armed weather. Uke arm rests seem to be hard to come by for some reason; if this guitar rest works (I had to install a shim so it'd fit), a Mandolin arm rest would likely work better. But these are small criticisms, and I've found workarounds. I still love this uke!

Its a fantastic ukulele. Sounds exactly like I hoped it would and it looks very handsome. I couldn't be happier.....well except if I receive a 'bundle'. Tried to attach a video but file was too big. So attached a photo

    Loving it!

Loving the new addition to the "family" - the Honolua tenor on the left. Great sound, and the detailing is lovely-yet-understated. This one's my favourite (shh! don't tell the siblings! ;)
